Tim Jessell

All sketching and painting is done in Photoshop or Painter using my Wacom Intuos Pro tablet. Each stroke done by hand.
I submit a pencil to the client. Upon approval, I begin to paint underneath the sketch, laying in the basic colors (in the case of this image, digital watercolors) trying to "say" something to the entire piece. I then do a dull purplish wash(multiply layer) over the entire piece and erase away revealing the brighter elements. This establishes the darks. Now the underpainting is ready for the opaque, brighter tones and details(digital pastels in this case). In the last step I add some digital "noise", to lend a more analog/less slick feel to the illustration. The image is then served and uploaded at room temperature….
